Search
RomanovHeritage.com offers fast and reliable search engine accessible on every page.
The search is performed in case-insensitive fashion. For every row in the RomanovHeritage.com data base table, RomanovHeritage.com query search returns a relevance value, that is, a similarity measure between the search string and the text in that row. The rows returned are automatically sorted with the highest relevance first.
Maximum search string is 200 symbols.
RomanovHeritage.com search engine uses a very simple parser to split query text into words. A ???word??™ is any sequence of characters consisting of letters, digits, `'', or `_'. Some words are ignored in full-text searches: Every correct word in the collection and in the query is weighted according to its significance in the collection or query. This way, a word that is present in many documents has a lower weight (and may even have a zero weight), because it has lower semantic value in this particular collection. Conversely, if the word is rare, it receives a higher weight. The weights of the words are then combined to compute the relevance of the data base row.
If two or more words is a query, RomanovHeritage.com search engine find rows that contain at least one of the two or more words.
Any word that is too short is ignored. The default minimum length of words that will be found by full-text searches is four characters.
If the search word is present in at least 50% of the data base rows (50% threshold), the search result is empty. As such, it is effectively treated as a stopword.
Words in the stopword list are ignored. A stopword is a word such as ``the'' or ``some'' that is so common that it is considered to have zero semantic value.
Boolean Searches
RomanovHeritage.com search engine allow boolean full-text search. Boolean full-text searches have these characteristics:
The boolean full-text search capability supports the following operators:
+ A leading plus sign indicates that this word must be present in every row returned.
- A leading minus sign indicates that this word must not be present in any row returned.
> < These two operators are used to change a word's contribution to the relevance value that is assigned to a row. The > operator increases the contribution and the < operator decreases it. See the example below.
( ) Parentheses are used to group words into subexpressions. Parenthesized groups can be nested.
~ A leading tilde acts as a negation operator, causing the word's contribution to the row relevance to be negative. It's useful for marking noise words. A row that contains such a word will be rated lower than others, but will not be excluded altogether, as it would be with the - operator.
* An asterisk is the truncation operator. Unlike the other operators, it should be appended to the word.
" A phrase that is enclosed within double quote (`"') characters matches only rows that contain the phrase literally, as it was typed.
The following examples demonstrate some search strings that use boolean full-text operators:
'apple banana' Find rows that contain at least one of the two words.
'+apple +juice' Find rows that contain both words.
'+apple macintosh' Find rows that contain the word ``apple'', but rank rows higher if they also contain ``macintosh''.
'+apple -macintosh' Find rows that contain the word ``apple'' but not ``macintosh''.
'+apple +(>turnover
'apple*' Find rows that contain words such as ``apple'', ``apples'', ``applesauce'', or ``applet''.
'"some words"' Find rows that contain the exact phrase ``some words'' (for example, rows that contain ``some words of wisdom'' but not ``some noise words''). Note that the `"' characters that surround the phrase are operator characters that delimit the phrase. They are not the quotes that surround the search string itself
